Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte (Printer-friendly)

A cool blend of strawberry puree, matcha, and vanilla cream over ice for a summer delight.

# What You’ll Need:

→ Strawberry Layer

01 - 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped
02 - 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
03 - 2 tablespoons water
04 - 1 teaspoon lemon juice

→ Matcha Layer

05 - 2 teaspoons matcha green tea powder
06 - 1/4 cup hot water, approximately 175°F

→ Vanilla Sweet Cream

07 - 1/2 cup whole milk or dairy-free alternative
08 - 1/4 cup heavy cream or coconut cream for dairy-free option
09 - 1 tablespoon vanilla syrup or 1 teaspoon vanilla extract plus 1 tablespoon simple syrup

→ Assembly

10 - 1 cup ice cubes
11 - Fresh strawberries, sliced, for garnish

# Directions:

01 - Combine strawberries, sugar, water, and lemon juice in a small saucepan. Heat over medium-low, stirring and mashing until strawberries soften and become syrupy, approximately 3 to 4 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool completely, then blend or mash until smooth texture is achieved. Set aside.
02 - Sift matcha powder into a bowl. Add hot water and whisk vigorously using a bamboo whisk or milk frother until smooth and frothy consistency is reached.
03 - Whisk together milk, cream, and vanilla syrup in a small pitcher until thoroughly combined.
04 - Divide strawberry puree equally between two large glasses. Add ice cubes to each glass. Slowly pour vanilla sweet cream over the ice. Gently pour matcha over the cream to create distinct layered effect.
05 - Garnish with sliced strawberries if desired. Stir before drinking to combine layers.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • It looks stunning in a glass—those distinct layers actually photograph well without trying.
  • Ready in 10 minutes, which means you can impress someone without spending your whole morning in the kitchen.
  • Naturally vegetarian and gluten-free, but nobody has to know you made it that way.
02 -
  • Water temperature for matcha is genuinely crucial—if it's too hot you'll taste bitterness, too cool and it never fully dissolves into that silky texture.
  • Don't stir this drink immediately; let people enjoy the visual drama of the layers for at least the first few sips before they mix it all together.
03 -
  • Chill your glasses in the freezer for five minutes before assembling—it keeps everything cold longer and makes the drink feel more intentional somehow.
  • If you're making these for more than two people, prep the strawberry puree and matcha ahead of time; just assemble them fresh when people are ready to drink.
